One of the biggest differences I noticed in Mass., was the presence of Old Money. You could see it in its towns and in its Old Farms. The Town of Kent was just one of those places. The high school was like nothing I have ever seen. I would just say a dirty hiker does not feel too comfortable in a place like this.
